Harry Potter 7 (Total Film): Magazine Cover Analysis

The use of the three different covers and colour scheme is effective in exploring differences between characters within such a popular franchise. The way that the language used on the front cover is exactly the same on each cover creates a continuity for the magazine and enables them to alter some parts to channel each character and appeal to different fans of the franchise. The phrase 'No school. No rules.' is repeated on each cover and is symbolic of the film and the characters. The repetition allows the audience to recognise that they are all a part of one franchise.

The way that each of the actors is stood in similar simple poses in the middle is effective as it explores strength through the characters and shows how influential each of the characters are. The backgrounds of the images are very simple, with the colours differing for each cover. This highlights the intensity of the actors as the audience is able to focus on them rather than a background image.

The title of the film is emboldened at the bottom of the cover. This is effective as it draws the audiences eye and is on of the first things you see. The white font across the cover, in contrast to the bright background colours, allows the reader to clearly read the writing and see what the issue is about.

The slogan at the top of the cover is in a clean, capitalised font. This is effective as it doesn't overshadow the rest of what is on the front cover. The fact that it is above the main magazine title lets the audience know what the magazine is called and what it will be about. 'The Modern Guide to Movies' tells the audience that the magazine is of some importance and will encourage them to buy it.

The title of the magazine is one of the more prominent features of the magazine cover, as it is in a large, notable font. Total Film Magazine is quite popular and so this must be a prominent feature so that people know what magazine they are picking up. It is clear to see that this is a popular magazine as parts o the title are covered by the main image. This suggests that people know the magazine well enough that the whole title doesn't need to be on display on the cover - allowing more room for the main image. This is also shown by the title of the film being covered at the bottom. This suggests that the franchise and the actors are so well known that the whole title is not needed.
